Networking If
you are a multiple-PC owners you have probably thought about how you
could Network your computers and share your internet connection. Installing an Ethernet network using a Hub or a switch: You can install an Ethernet network for two or more computers using a Hub or a switch, network card and Cat 5 cable. First, install a network card on each computer to be networked together. Second, connect the cable modem and the computers, using the Cat 5 cable, to the hub ports. Third, email and request BCI to provision the Mac address for each network card. BCI allows residential accounts to connect up to 5 computers.
Installing an
Ethernet network using a Firewall. (RECOMMENDED
FOR ALL BCI USERS.) A firewall is simply a program or hardware device that filters the information coming through the Internet connection into your private network or computer system. A firewall can protect your network from offensive Web sites and potential hackers. If an incoming packet of information is flagged by the filters, it is not allowed through.
First,
install a network card on each computer to be networked together.
Second, connect the cable modem to the Firwall/Switch using Cat 5 cable.
Third, connect the computers to the ports on the Firwall/Switch. Four,
email and request BCI to provision the Mac address of the Firwall. Wireless Networking:Wireless Networking
creates a network by sending radio-frequency signals between your
computers to share information. This technology is ideal if you have
computers in different location around the house. This is because
instead of running wires all over the house you can use this technology
to extend you networking around the house very easily. |
