Slow Speeds

!Note! Before running any speed test, disable any antivirus and firewalls that you may have. These can severly slow down your internet connection.

A slow internet connection can be caused by a variety of issues. The first thing you should do is confirm that you are receiving the speed that you are paying for.

You can check this by running our speed test located here. Your "download" should be roughly the speed you are paying for. For example, if your download is 986 kbps and your upload is 486 that is roughly our 1Mb/s service.

Due to the nature of the technology that is being used, the speed given through the speed test will rarely reflect the actual speed that you are paying for.

If, however, your speed is considerably less that what you are paying for, then the most likely cause is that you have multiple computers connected through a router or your computer is affected with spyware/virus.

The next thing to do is, if you have a router, connect a computer directly to the cable modem and re-run the speed test.

If you are still getting the same speed please run an antivirus/antispyware program. You can find links these software in our Support section. Click here to go there now.

If none of these resolves your issue please contact BCI Support. It is possible, however rare, that their is noise on your cable line. Click here to visit our Contact section.
