This page contains some online help should you in counter any problems while using BCI. If you can’t open three or four web sites including BCI's web page and or unable to open email and send messages, this information might help you to solve the problem quickly.

 

To begin with check the following Items.
1)      Make sure the Ethernet wire (data cable) is firmly connected.
2)      Check and make sure the cable modem is plugged in and the power light is illuminated. If you are using power strip, make sure it is turned on.
3)      Ensure the computer and monitor are turned on.
4)      If you are a telco-return customer check phone lines by plugging a telephone and checking for a dial tone into the phone jack you connect the cable modem.

If you have a General Instrument cable modem you should see four green lights for normal operation.

The Power light should be a solid green light, if not check your power cord.

The Receive light should be a solid green light, if it’s flashing, wait while it’s scanning for the downstream frequency and should soon be a solid green when a suitable channel is found. If no green light, downstream is lost, reset cable modem as explained in the next section.

The Send light should be a solid green, if it is flashing, wait while it scans for the upstream frequency and should soon be a solid green light when upstream channel is found. If no green light upstream is lost, rest cable modem as explained in the next section.

The Online light should be a solid green, if not IP configuration is lost check your network connection as explained in the next section.

If you have a 3com U.S Robotics cable modem you should see three green lights for normal operation.

The Power Light should be a solid green light, if not check your power cord.

The Cable Modem Status light should be a solid green light, if it’s flashing, wait while it’s scanning for the downstream frequency and should soon be a solid green when  a suitable channel is found. If no green light, downstream is lost, reset cable modem as explained in the next section.

The PC Link light should be a solid green when link is recognized and computer is turned on, if not IP configuration is lost check your network connection as explained in th next section.

Checking your Configuration for TCP/IP and Verify Your IP address.

For window 95, and 98 do the following

Double click Network icon on the Control Panel window and  select configuration tab on the network window.                                  

Check to see if TCP/IP is installed for the Ethernet card.

f not add by clicking Add.

Double click the Protocol options on Select Network Components Type window.

Click Microsoft in the Manufactures section and then click TCP/IP in the Network Protocol section of Select Network Protocol window and click ok.

If TCP/IP is installed for the Ethernet card, verify your IP address.

On the windows Desktop click start and select Run. Type winipcfg.exe and return. Make sure you are viewing the Ethernet adapter (not the PPP adapter most computers have installed.) You should see the following IP addresses in the IP Configuration window:

63.144.115.__

65.118.16.__

65.118.17.__

65.118.18.__

or

65.118.19.__

If not, click on Renew and Ok. If you still can’t access the Internet, call Bardstown Cable Internet . 

For Macintosh PC

Double click on System folder, then control panel.

Then Select TCP/IP and check for IP configurations and verify the IP address.

Resetting your cable modem

If a reset button is available on the cable modem, press the reset button. Otherwise, unplug the power cord from the cable modem, wait 15 sec and then plug in again. It is recommended you restart your computer before resetting the cable modem.
